Wool Openwork Westerly Rib (by the half yard)
Knit with fine grade wool from an American breed of sheep called the Columbia, Westerly is luxurious and feels comfortable against the skin. The yarns used to create this fabric have not been dyed. The Natural White is the cream color of natural white wool. The Charcoal is actually a blend of several natural grey fibers.
This sweater knit fabric has a lovely drape and a bit of openwork (lace-like texture). It will make a beautiful lacy pullover or cardigan, a scarf or a wrap. Fabric can be fulled for a less lacy look. Each side is different, but either will work as the "right side" of your garment or accessory. Mix the two sides in a single garment for a beautiful effect. Both sides are shown in the photos.
Relaxed, the width is approximately 64 inches (163 cm). Weight is approximately 9 oz/sq yd (305 gsm). The fabric was knit locally in New York.
Always prepare your fabric before cutting. Overlock or do a zigzag along cut edges, then launder your fabric in the same manner you'll use with your finished garment. In order to prevent felting or shrinking of wool, gentle washing by hand in cool water is recommended. Lay flat to dry. Or the fabric may be dry cleaned.
Westerly wool is sold by the HALF YARD (0.457 meter). After adding your selection to the cart, enter the number of half yard lengths you require, and update your total by clicking outside the box. Fabric of the same color and style will be delivered in one continuous piece.
If weight, hand, color, and stretch are important to your project, please order a swatch first.
